songs of saturn, and the birth chart of Noah Cyrus
One of my favorite astrological phenomena occurs when a singer subconsciously channels their birth chart into their music…
An artist whose natal chart is constantly reflected in her music is Noah Cyrus, sister to Miley Cyrus, and youngest daughter to Billy Ray Cyrus.
As a long time fan of Noah’s music, I’ve been fascinated in observing how her musical career deviates from the rest of her family, with songs that often reflect the celestial bodies she was born under.
Noah Cyrus was born January 8, 2000, giving her a Capricorn sun & Aquarius moon. It’s important to note that no rising has been confirmed, as her birth time has not been publicly disclosed. So, without an accurate birth time, we can only go so far with our analysis - the rest is purely conjecture. I have included her birth chart at the bottom of this article, with a speculated rising time.
But even without the birth time, you can clearly see Saturn’s heavy influence in Noah’s personal style, the quality of her music, and her songwriting.
Saturn blesses those born under its influence
with a darker, more serious edge;
typically with a penchant for black and stark contrast,
as well as an aura of elder wisdom
that seems to run like a current, deep under their skin.
+
I first became curious about Noah’s chart when I listened to the song “Young & Sad” from her album At the End of Everything, where she compares herself to her sister (Miley).
“My sister’s like sunshine,
Always bringing good light -
Wherever she will go;
And I was born to rain clouds,
When they blew the flame out,
Blessed in her shadow”
This line always touched something deep within me, as it reveals so much truth in a few words. She is able to capture the experience of having a sister who is opposite to her in every way, using symbolic representation of light/shadow, which refers directly to the sisters’ dominant planets.
+
Not only does this song give us insight into Noah’s experience growing up with a famous sister, it channels the heart of both sister’s birth charts, as Miley is a Sagittarius and therefore heavily influenced by Jupiter. Miley is, in many ways, a textbook Sag, and her music often touches on Jupiterian themes (I dare you to count how many of her songs reference gold and good times!)
Noah’s intuitive sense of being born under the influence of a different, darker and much heavier force is clear in her songwriting.
+
Once you start looking for Saturn themes in her music, they are impossible to miss.
The entire album (The End of Everything) oozes Saturn’s influence, from the song titles to the prevalent melancholic imagery. Her darker, saturnian tone has become intertwined with her signature aesthetic, staying true through a number of albums even while she experimented with a range of musical styles.
+
When Noah first started her music career, her songs were much more upbeat, as she leaned into the pop music world of her sister. She did a number of song collaborations with pop, rap and EDM artists, before returning to her country roots. Then she began tapping into her creativity, and she found her sound. As her songwriting talent grew, she made a place for herself in the alt-folk & alt-country genres, with music that is focused on deep, meaningful lyrics, and showcases the full range of her gorgeous voice.
+
Her music frequently addresses saturnian themes, including depression, loneliness, the passage of time, and the inescapability of death. These are all common obsessions of Saturn, as his natives tend to be preoccupied with forces that are greater than themselves.
At 25, Noah is still very young, but she gives off an aura of maturity, which is also another common Saturn trait. This maturity seems to stem from a childhood in the spotlight, as the youngest in a very famous family.
+
Growing up in Hollywood, with siblings who were much older than her, it’s very possible that she was exposed to the realities of life at a very early age.
Noah has been pretty transparent about her struggles with depression, and substance abuse and recovery. While her peers were just venturing out into the world, Noah had already built a career, touring at age 18. By 20, she was already in recovery, and by 23, engaged.
It’s often said that Saturn dominant people experience most of their toughest lessons early in life, or seem to struggle in some way as children. Saturn then seems to get kinder with age, allowing them to benefit from the ‘tough love’ they received when they grew up.

Water imagery & the Moon 🌙
Another celestial body that Noah seems to have a deep connection with is the Moon. She constantly refers to the full moon in her album art and personal aesthetic. She also seems to have a deep connection to water, as almost every single music video and photoshoot features her swimming in a lake, river, ocean, or even bath tub.
+

Crying, water, and rain (all stereotypical water sign/cancer symbols) show up frequently in her art and music. In my opinion, she really gives off cancer energy, and I was convinced for a while that she might be a cancer rising.
This theory is supported by her stunning beauty, with soft, round features and large eyes. She embodies many of the traits typically ascribed to Cancer risings. (If you want to check out the cancer rising chart, set her birth time for around 5PM)
+
Noah’s moon really is the focal point of her chart. It sits right at the midpoint of her parade of planets, sandwiched in a conjunction between Neptune and Uranus. With her moon heavily aspected, it makes sense that she channels her emotions into her songwriting.
While I believe Cancer Rising is a top contender for her ascendant, I actually settled on an Aquarius rising chart, with the Moon in the first house. A first house moon would heavily influence her appearance, as well as enable her to channel her emotions into her music, which bleeds into all aspects of life, essentially entwining her emotional world with her core identity. I was convinced by the Aquarius rising chart for a number of reasons, most importantly, that Saturn seems to have an unusual amount of influence over her psyche.
+
My reasoning for the Aquarius rising chart:
~ Saturn ruled chart
~ the recent transit of Saturn in Capricorn and Aquarius (2018 - 2022) which would’ve been over her AC
~ Moon in the first house
~ Moon + Uranus + Neptune conjunction, Neptune also tends to give artistic ability and beauty when on the AC.
~ Her style is a definite mix of Saturn and Uranus, both eclectic and utilitarian.
~ Her father is also a confirmed Aquarius rising, with an Aquarius moon.
~ Her father and sister both have fixed signs on the angles, Miley is a Taurus rising
~ Scorpio MC, making her midheaven ruled by Mars/Pluto
A quick note on Saturn’s transit in Capricorn and Aquarius (2018 - 2022)
I started deeply committing to my astrology practice during my own Saturn return, when it was transiting Capricorn in 2018. As I began practicing, I collected the birth data of many of my friends and family to observe their charts and transits in real time.
One thing I can say with 100% certainty is that my Capricorn and Aquarius Rising friends have been through the WRINGER. Yes, we had a pandemic, and it was hard for everyone. But the people who I witnessed struggle the most were always my Saturn ruled friends. There was a sense that they were continuously fighting an uphill battle, and everytime they would gain some ground, something else would come up to push them back.
Now, there’s a number of reasons for this, including Pluto’s simultaneous creep through late Capricorn and into Aquarius. The combined energy of the Saturn/Pluto conjunction, was stressful for the collective as a whole, but even more so for the Cap/Aquarius risings. They had to experienced those transits on their ascendant, so for them, it was deeply personal.
If you experienced this transit as a Capricorn or Aquarius rising, you may have felt like there would be no end to the challenges you faced over the last 8 or so years. You may be starting to feel like things are easing up a little, but you may still have some residual fear, waiting for other metaphorical shoe to ‘drop’. I do feel like Saturn should have released you a bit, and hopefully the worst is behind you.
In this interview from 2022, Noah speaks about the struggles she dealt with starting when she turned 18, which later inspired her music. Hearing many of her struggles (growing up too fast, depression, isolation, loneliness, and loss of a grandparent) are all symptomatic of a significant Saturn transit. It almost has a similar feel to a Saturn return, and I honestly believe that Noah’s SR (in about 3 years) will be ‘good’, with positive growth as she went through so many struggles earlier in life.
I highly recommend watching the full interview, as you can hear her reference a few of her other placements. I noticed how she speaks about love and relationships - she wants to “worship” her partner, and loses herself in others. She has Pluto and Venus in an exact conjunction in Sagittarius, which would give a tendency towards power struggles in love, as well as a deep need to attachment and connection that can be toxic if in an unhealthy partnership. Listen to “All Three” to hear Pluto + Venus show up in her music.
+
Uranus + Noah’s personal style
Noah’s Aquarian nature is apparent in her experimental fashion choices, as well as her activism. In her personal style, the influence of Uranus gives her an edge, and level of ethereal otherworldliness. She began pushing the boundaries of fashion in her personal style as soon as she came onto the scene, and aligned herself with cutting edge designers who de-emphasize conventional trends and opt for futuristic styling. It’s also interesting to note that her fiancé is a German fashion designer.
Noah has also been involved in a number of causes, including animal rights activism and philanthropic benefits.
+
Scorpio Midheaven and Fire Imagery
If you watch Noah’s music videos, you will see that a theme of red + fire comes up frequently in her art. With a possible Scorpio midheaven, Mars/Pluto would be the ruler(s) of her MC. Noah also has Venus conjunct Pluto, in Sagittarius. This aspect further emphasizes her connection to her art as a transformative death process, fueled by fire.

Looking to the Cyrus family
Because we don’t have a full picture of Noah’s chart, I thought it would be good to supplement with her family’s charts, as many families tend to share planetary placements. Often, you can observe connections between parents and children in their charts. And sure enough, Billy Ray and Miley both have confirmed birth times with AA ratings.
Billy Ray is an Aquarius rising, with a Virgo Sun and Aquarius moon. If I’m correct with Noah’s chart, that would mean they both share earth suns, with the same moon and rising signs. This isn’t uncommon with families, as you will often see repeated signs and placements with family members.
I also noticed that Miley and Billy Ray both have fixed signs ruling the angles of their charts.
As an Aquarius rising, Billy Ray’s midheaven is at 26 scorpio. Miley is a Taurus rising, with an Aquarius MC. This also puts Miley’s IC in Leo, indicating that she was born into a famous and influential family legacy.
Miley’s sun (1 sag), mercury (27 scorpio), moon (exact at 26 scorpio), and pluto (23 scorpio) all conjunct her dad’s MC when viewing their charts together. The symbology of that conjunction alone could have its own article!
+
Using this information, we can see that there are certain themes that run in the Cyrus family. Aquarius and Scorpio are signs that come up a lot, along with prominent moon placements and strong Saturn influence.
No matter how Noah’s chart shakes out, it is undeniable that she holds deep power, and she masterfully channels the energies of the planets into the spirit of her music.

What planet do you see most in Noah’s music and style?
What other artists do you feel innately channel their birth chart?
